About the project
The house in Mrkopalj is located at the intersection of two streets that do not meet at a right angle, and its floor plan follows the directions of both streets, thereby aligning with the row of existing neighboring houses as well as those across the street. With its steeply pitched roof, the house echoes traditional local building patterns, reinterpreted through a contemporary architectural expression.

On the ground floor, the wall surfaces are clad in stone, while the roof is finished in standing seam metal, whose appearance recalls the traditional method of roofing with sheet metal panels. At the points of contact with the exterior spaces, timber is used as a natural material choice, mediating between the designed courtyard and the tall pine forest beyond.
